🏠 Up to $85,000 for Home Repairs: What Tamarac Homeowners Need to Know Before September

🏠 If you own your home in Tamarac and there's a repair you've been putting off, the City of Tamarac

has a program you should know about.

🔧 The Owner-Occupied Minor Home Repair (MHR) Program helps homeowners cover the cost of

much-needed repairs, and applications open for a short window this September. 🗓️

At Housing Foundation of America, we help families across South Florida find and qualify for programs

exactly like this one.

🤝🏽 Here's a plain-language breakdown of how it works, who qualifies, and how to give yourself

the best shot at getting in. ⬇️

🛠️ What the program covers

The Minor Home Repair Program is designed to help owner-occupants take care of repairs that

are hard to fund out of pocket. According to the City, the program covers:

  • 🔨 Much-needed home repairs (program rules and restrictions apply)

  • Home modifications for accessibility needs, for Special Needs applicants who need the house to work better for the people living in it

  • 🚨 Conditions that pose health and safety issues inside the home

  • 📋 Minimal housing code violations that need to be brought into compliance

The maximum award is up to $85,000 💰, though conditions apply

and your actual amount depends on the scope of the work.

⚠️ The things you really need to read twice

Programs like this come with terms, and this one has a few that deserve your full attention before you apply:

  • 📌 A 15-year lien will be placed on the property. This is mandatory. It's a standard feature of many repair-assistance programs, but you should understand exactly what it means for you before you sign anything.

  • 🏡 The home must be your primary residence and Homesteaded. This is for the house you actually live in, not a rental or an investment property.

  • 📊 Your household income cannot exceed the program limits. Both your income and your assets are verified as part of the application.

None of this should scare you off. It just means it's worth sitting down

with someone who can walk you through the fine print first. 🙌🏽

💵 The 2026 income limits

Eligibility is based on your household size and your income compared to the Area Median Income (AMI).

Here are the 2026 limits the City published for the program:

👪 Household size

30% AMI

50% AMI

80% AMI

1

$26,650

$44,350

$71,000

2

$30,450

$50,700

$81,150

3

$34,250

$57,000

$91,300

4

$38,050

$63,400

$101,400

If your household has five or more people, the limits continue past what's shown here.

Contact the City's Housing Division for your exact figure, or reach out to us and we'll help you find it. 📞

⏰ Mark these dates, because the window is short

This is the part that trips people up, so read it carefully:

  • 🟢 Opens: September 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM EST
  • 🔴 Closes: September 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM EST

There's a catch. ⚡ The application period also closes once 150 applications have been received,

whichever happens first. In practice, that means the two-week window could close early if demand is high.

Applying on day one gives you the best chance. 🏃🏽‍♀️

Applications are accepted online only 💻, at Tamarac.gov/HomeRehabilitation. There is no paper option,

so you'll want your login and your documents ready before the window opens.

✅ How to get ready right now

You don't have to wait until September 8 to start. In fact, the homeowners who make the deadline

are almost always the ones who prepared in August. Here's where to begin:

  1. 🏡 Confirm the basics. You own the home, you live in it, and it's Homesteaded in Tamarac.
  2. 📊 Check your income against the chart. Find your household size and see where you land.
  3. 📄 Pull your documents early. Income and assets have to be verified, so gather pay records, statements, and proof of ownership now instead of scrambling on opening day.
  4. 🖱️ Apply the day it opens. With only 150 spots, early and organized wins.
